The Benefits Of Autoblogging

Before talking too much about the benefits of autoblogging, I will briefly explain what an autoblog is, since it is a relatively new thing. As well as being a blog about cars, the term “autoblog” refers to a blog that updates itself with content automatically. It usually does this by automatically utilising the RSS feeds off other sources. In other words it takes material from other sites when they have been updated, and automatically places it onto your site.

There are many advantages, and disadvantages to autoblogging. However if done correctly, it can bring a nice amount of income with little effort once it is set up. I am a successful autoblogger, but I actually stumbled on it as a result of other things I was doing.

I am actually a clinical hypnotherapist and musician by trade. I became a little dissatisfied with their being so many clients needing help, and so little time to help them. In my quest for efficiency, I decided to combine my two skills to provide hypnotherapy audio sessions online. I could record a session once, and it could be used many times to help different clients.

In order to promote my audio sessions, I realised that I needed to set some other sites and blogs up to support and promote my main hypnosis site. After a while though, I realised that I was beginning to spend more time on these sites than I did on creating new products. Then I realised autoblogging was the answer.

I set up a simple autoblog at http://www.Hypnosis-Knowledge.com I did a couple of days link building and promoting it, then that was it. The site is now receiving a growing number of visitors, and it updates itself once or twice a day on average, and I do nothing to it at all. Just a couple of days effort, and now I can reap the benefits for many years to come.

As this has worked so well, it has got me thinking. There is nothing to stop you setting up 100 of these – even more. If each one only makes a dollar or two a day then it is worth it. Hopefully some will make a lot more. They take a few hours to set up, then maybe a day or two to link build and promote, then that is it – move on to creating the next one.

You don’t have to spend any time creating content as it is created automatically. All you need to do is make sure you choose quality content that is related to some sort of niche, rather than a random collection of topics, then you are away. It is surprising how well this can work and look like a human edited blog if you choose your sources wisely.

Another great advantage of autoblogging is that since you have the freedom to set many up, you can link to yourself with all the different blogs that you set up. It’s a good idea to do something like this – link blog A to blog B, then blog B to C, then C to D…and so on in a chain. This will help you with SEO, although you must still do some link building outside your network to bring in some link juice.

You may wish to use all your autoblogs to feed to a main site that you may have – you can do either – or both. Autoblogging can be used to make money in its own right, or it can be used to further your existing sites and blogs. It’s your call really. In SEO terms you can benefit from the links pointing to your main site, and also you can attract more visitors and interest due to your regularly updated fresh content.

You may simply wish to just set up one autoblog that is attached to your main site. The regularly updated content should help encourage people to come back to your site often to see the updates on your blog. If you come up with a clever system, then it can really help you get ahead in the online world.

Great post – something I’m looking into for other sites. What I am keen to know though is if there is a legal issue taking content from another site and using it for posts on your own site? Or is it ok because it is a feed?

    Can you clarify?

Hi Martin. It’s a bit of a grey area as far as the law is concerned. As a rule you should make sure you are using RSS feeds that allow syndication. Different websites will have different rules on their content. For instance, Google news allows you to use their feed as long as your site is non-commercial (no advertising etc.). So it’s always worth checking this out. If in doubt you should always ask for permission. You may even be able to do some sort of deal with websites – trading content, links, money etc. If you want to keep it simple, there are many quality article directories where you can use categorised feeds to ensure relevant information. There are also many niche article directories that also allow you to use their content.

    I hope this helps!
